    Dr. J. V. Goud

    Former Vice Chancellor, University of Agricultural Sciences (U.A.S.),Dharwad, Karnataka, India

    Dr. J. V. Goud, a renowned cytogeneticist of the country, was the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agricultural Sciences (U.A.S.), Dharwad, from 1986-1989. He completed his B.Sc. (Agri.) with first rank from Karnataka University, Dharwad and M. Sc (Agri.) from the College of Agriculture, Dharwad, Bengaluru in the year 1960. He obtained his Ph.D. from Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi under the guidance of Dr. M. S. Swaminathan in 1966.

    He started his career as lecturer in Agricultural Botany at College of Agriculture, Dharwad during 1961-1963. He has served the University in various capacities as Assistant Cytogeneticist (1962-1969), Sorghum Breeder (1969-1971), Plant Breeder (1971-1973). He then became the Professor & Head of the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding in 1973, the position which he occupied till 1986. He guided more than 50 M. Sc. (Agri.) and 25 Ph. D students who are currently heading various National Institutes and Research Organizations within and outside the country. He has published more than 500 research papers in national and international journals of high repute. He has contributed to the release of improved varieties in rice, tobacco, chilli, sorghum and bajra. Besides, he has also published more than 100 popular articles and authored 5 books on Genetics and Plant Breeding, Agriculture and Rural development. Dr. Goud is a member of many scientific bodies, professional societies and research organizations. He served as the member of advisory council for ICRISAT, Patancheru. During his service he has visited several countries like USA, Canada, Japan and many European countries for scientific exchanges and presented research papers in International conferences/symposia.

    Dr. J.V. Goud became the first Vice-chancellor of the UAS, Dharwad and laid a strong foundation for the university with his administrative skills and majestic personality. Under his leadership, UAS, Dharwad got many prestigious awards in the field of Agricultural Sciences namely “Hooker Award” from ICAR, National Productivity Award by President of India and Cash prize award by Governor of Karnataka.

    Dr. S.W. Mensinkai Research and Education Foundation, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad honoured Dr. J. V. Goud with Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016 for the outstanding contributions in the field of Genetics, Cytogenetics and Plant Breeding, and overall service for the growth and development of agriculture in the country.

    Dr. Jeganathan Chockalingam

    Professor and Dean, Remote Sensing (Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship), Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, Jharkhand, India.

    Dr. Jeganathan Chockalingam currently works at the Department of Remote Sensing, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra. Jeganathan does research about various techniques and issues in monitoring vegetation dynamics from space. His area of interest includes geostatistics, spatial decision modelling, time-series analysis of remote sensing data, multi-scale modelling, climate change impact assessment and environmental applications of Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information System (GIS), RS based vegetation and environmental analysis, Modelling Space- Time vegetation dynamics, Land Surface Phenology, Vegetation and Climate, Landscape Metrics and Modelling, Land Cover Change Modelling, Geostatistics, Downscaling of Satellite derived vegetation data, Multi-criteria decision modelling, Fuzzy Logic and Software Development.

    Dr. Jeganathan completed his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Physics from Madurai Kamaraj University,Tamil Nadu, India, M.Sc. Geoinformatics from International Institute for Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation (ITC), Enschede, Netherlands and Ph.D. in Forest Geoinformatics from Forest Research Institute (FRI) University, Dehradun, India.

    Dr. Jeganathan has 25Years of Experience in Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS),University of Southampton and Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra. Dr. Jeganathan has published 43 research papers in peer-reviewed journals, 38 conference papers, 4 books, 8 book chapters with national and international level relevance. He has developed 5 software products and worked on 22 state level and national level research projects

    Dr. K. A. Kulkarni

    Former Director, Vasant Dada Sugar Institute (VSI), Pune, Maharashtra, India

    Dr. K. A. Kulkarni has done his B. Sc. (Agri.) in 1967, M. Sc. (Agri.) in1969 (Entomology) and Ph. D. (Entomology) in 1989 with a Gold Medal. He has 36 years of experience and has served as an Instructor in Department of Agricultural Entomology (1970-1972) at College of Agriculture Dharwad; Assistant Entomologist (Sorghum) from 1972-1983 at MRS, UAS, Dharwad; Associate Professor of Agricultural Entomology from 1983-1993 at College of Agriculture, UAS, Dharwad; Professor of Agricultural Entomology from 1993 at College of Agriculture, UAS, Dharwad; Professor and Head, Department of Agricultural Entomology 2000-2004, College of Agriculture, UAS, Dharwad; Registrar, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad from 2004-2006.

    He is a Fellow of Entomological society of India, New Delhi, Member Selection Committee of ASRB New Delhi, Member on RAC of Sorghum, NRCS, Hyderabad, Vice President Society for Bio-control advancement, Bangalore (2001-2003). He has been awarded UASD Gold Medal (1989), Scientist of the Year-2002 by NESA, New Delhi (2003), Rishi- Economic Entomology by SEPSD, Varanasi (2003) and Fellow award from Applied Zoologists Research Association, Odisha (2020). He has published 288 Research Papers/Articles, 11 Books, 80 Popular articles and 60 Radio talks. He has guided 27 M.Sc. (Agri.) and 12 Ph. D Students. He has implemented 8 externally funded research projects with an outlay of Rs. 131 Lakhs.

    He has contributed to the Farming Community by developing Integrated Pest Management Programme for the Pests on Sorghum, Cotton, Groundnut, Safflower, Sunflower, Pigeonpea, Chickpea and chilli; Mass Production Techniques for NPV of Helicoverpa, Spodoptera and Mythimna; Mass Production Techniques for Trichogramma and Zygogramma and Contributed for the release of high yielding varieties of sorghum as an Entomologist.

    He has participated in at Texas A and M University USA and presented a paper on sorghum ear head midge.He also served as a rapporteur for one of the sessions in The International Sorghum Workshop. He has attended 30 National level workshops.

    Dr. Nandkumar Kunchge

    Director of K. J. Somaiya Institute of Applied Agricultural Research (KIAAR).

    Dr. Nandkumar Kunchge is Director of K. J. Somaiya Institute of Applied Agricultural Research (KIAAR), Sameerwadi, Karnataka. He served agricultural community for more than 30 years through seeds industries (Mahyco, Mahabeej, Bejo Sheetal/ Kalash seeds) as Principal scientist and later as Director (Biotechnology) for six years.

    His research interest has been focused on agricultural development applying modern tools, experienced in crop biotechnology: Development of genetically modified crops (recalcitrant crops like Cajanus cajan, Allium cepa), biosafety studies of Bt. Brinjal (A complete make in India product), regulatory affairs, doubled haploids (Solanaceae & Cucurbits), polyploids, plant protoplasts, molecular breeding, micro propagation. Keeps keen interest in precision & organic agriculture with sustainable eco-friendly systems to conserve & enhance natural plethora.

    Dr. Nandkumar has led multiple projects as Principal Investigator, supported by BIRAC, DBT Govt. of India under PPP model, coordinated for systematization of programs with International linkage to keep pace with global standards (e.g. ISTA accreditation) In this context travelled to more than 12 counties, led technology negotiations with IPR awareness. Dr. Nandkumar has been selected as Cochran Fellow, by USDA, USA in 2015 & represented India seed industry. He is passionate in scientific networking, technology hunting & its judicial applications, He has published a book chapter, five research papers, delivered lectures in training program (e.g. IARI, IIVR), organized trainers training programs, workshops, International Conference (AgTech Global Summit 2012), African delegation study tours (2013-2023). Also mentored more than 25 students for their masters & Industrial sandwich training program (BCIL supported), guided 3 Ph. D students as co-guide, working as Adjunct Professor for Institute of Chemical Technology (Marathwada Centre). He serves as member on board of studies for various Universities.

    Dr. Y. V. N. Krishna Murthy

    Senior Professor and Registrar, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India.

    Dr. Krishna Murthy is a Distinguished Scientist in the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and currently working as a Director at, National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) and he is responsible for Earth Observation Satellite Data Acquisition, Processing and dissemination of its applications.

    Earlier he has worked as Scientific Secretary, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

    Dr. Krishna Murthy is spearheading the major policy level functions in respect of:

    • Planning of ISRO’s programmes for near and far future, as the Member Secretary to the ISRO Council
    • Evolving national policies for space technology development and space applications programme
    • Developing public private partnership for ISRO’s production programme
    • International Co-operation
    • Human resource management, leadership development in ISRO
    • Enabling public outreach of Indian Space Programme.

    He has significantly contributed in promoting geoinformatics for natural resource management and extending its use at grass root level for more than 3 decades. His contribution in developing innovative methodologies by integrating high technology geospatial information into conventional methods has greatly facilitated in ultimate assimilation of such inputs by the concerned beneficiaries including technocrats, bureaucrats, NGOs and end-user community for various thematic applications. For easy access and dissemination of geospatial products and services at the village level, he has designed and implemented various indigenous customized software packages using open source tools.

    He has also contributed for operational, research & development, capacity building and technology promotion programs in various disciplines of applied sciences and geospatial technology.

    He has also been conferred with many awards from Scientific and Professional Bodies like the Astronautical Society of India Award for Space Sciences and Applications, ISRO Performance Excellence Award, Bhaskara Award etc., for his innovative contributions and outstanding achievements in the field of Space Applications. He has also been conferred as a Fellow of the Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences.

    He has about 174 technical papers and 150 technical reports to his credit. Dr. Krishna Murthy has guided 7 Ph.D. scholars and development of nearly 25 indigenous software packages.
